Hi L-Yogi’s!

I’ve taken a hiatus from the blogs to really marinate on what I want to share of value to each and every one of you. There is so much the yoga journey has gifted me with and I want to pass that on in a way that fits into your daily living. Welcome the “Modern Yogi” series!

Today’s Modern Yogi topic is one that comes up a lot for everyone. As teachers, we witness it, as students you feel it…we all experience it at some point or another. What is it? Jealously, aka handing your power over rather than shining your own light.

You’ve probably noticed the person in the yoga class that seems to do everything effortlessly as your huffing and puffing away, trying to keep your “conscious breath control.”  All of the sudden you feel “less than,” while your mind probably tricks you even more by spinning a story about how “everything is perfect” for him/her in all areas of life (I have noooo experience with this lol). Why do you feel so icky in that moment? Is it because of them?

No. It’s because of you.

I’m going to share with you a secret I learned a long time ago and that’s powerful when you practice it. I used to easily get jealous in all different kinds of situations until some mentors of mine shared that it came from a space of not being aligned within myself.  Wait, what? What’s that mean?

Think about the times you have felt ON! I’m talking powerful, juicy (or masculine if you’re a man reading this lol), unstoppable, confident, radiant, on FIRE! I’m willing to bet you were in full alignment with yourself and your outer life situation was reflecting that back to you. The accolades you received at work? That’s because you did prepare and hit a home run on your presentation. The compliments from your partner? That’s because you were feeling “high” off of self love that day and they reflected that back to you. Whatever the reason for you feeling on it’s because you were being and doing the FULL YOU.

Now that is sexy and unstoppable. So what’s this have to do with your yoga practice?

If you’re anything like me, you consider yourself a modern yogi. Someone who loves and has 100% benefited from the journey of the yoga path and it’s helped blossom you into the full YOU. That doesn’t mean that you “gave up” everything (unless that was true for you), but it does mean that old behaviors/people who no longer serve you fell away and you find yourself practicing mindfulness everyday, both off an on your yoga mat, and the full you has finally blossomed. This means that you’re comfortable being, doing, and saying what you mean & how you feel because you owe it to yourself and the world to be you.

This weekend’s modern yogi assignment is to go into every situation shining your light and feeling unstoppable like the one of a kind creature that you are. See someone who triggers that voice in your head that brings up self doubt? STOP IT. Celebrate their light and yours because the world needs both. It needs everyones. Nothing’s more empowering than recognizing someone else’s light while feeling amazing radiating your own.

Let me know how this goes for you and if this is something that you’ve struggled or have been victorious with on your own. I love hearing about where you guys are at within your yoga journey.
